Due to past issues with purchasing and picking up our horses, we have implemented the following guidelines to the process.

Guidelines

**All horses will require a 50% security deposit in U.S. dollars (non-refundable) to hold the horse until pick up.  The balance due of the purchase price will be due on or before the date of arranged pick-up.  Payment will be in money order, cashier’s check, or personal check.  If using a personal check, it must be received 10 days prior to pick-up.  **We no longer accept PayPal payments.

**Due to possible interest in the same horse, we will go in order of such interest.  We strive to be as fair as possible as we’d love everyone to own one of these remarkable horses!

**Foals are left on their dams for 5-6 months.  If you are purchasing a foal, we will schedule a pick-up date after weaning.

**If for any reason the buyer wishes to change from originally held horse to another after a period of seven (7) days, there will be a fee of $50.00 which must be paid in full at the time of change.

**Transport/pick-up of any horse seven months or older should be arranged within 60 days of the received deposit.

**Any pick-up/transport date moved from the initially scheduled date may require the buyer to help financially with feed and/or hay for their horse.

**Buyers are responsible for providing us with at least a 10-day notice before transport/pick up of their horse.  This time is required for us to arrange a Coggins test if needed.  *This test is included in your purchase; however, any additional vaccinations will be done at the buyer’s expense.  If you reside outside the state of Oklahoma a Health Certificate will be required which the buyer is responsible for payment.

**If you reside outside the United States you will be responsible for any fees regarding vaccinations, health certificates or other required veterinarian or transport charges.  The horse must be paid in full at least ten days prior to pick-up.

We understand changes due to unforeseen circumstances regarding pick-up dates, and we are willing to work with you as best as we can.

We appreciate everyone’s interest in the Rickman Spanish Mustangs and hope we can help match you all with the best one for your needs!

Frequently asked questions

Most frequent questions and answers

What are your prices?

Please contact us for pricing.  Generally they are priced according to their lines, pure Choctaw strain versus Southwest lines, gaited, etc.

Do you have Choctaw horses ?

Indeed we do.  We have the largest herd of Choctaw strain Spanish Mustangs that we are aware of.  The Rickmans helped save the Choctaw strain from extinction and have worked to conserve them since.

Can we visit your herd?

We love to show our horses off and to educate anyone interested in their history.  We usually welcome visitors April through mid-November.  We ask that you contact us to schedule your visit as there are many chores needing to get done so to be able to reserve a day for visitors we politely ask for notice of your arrival.  Thank you!

Can I help?

The horses can always use feed, hay, worming meds, as well as other items that help to keep them in good condition.  If you would be interested in donating any of those items please contact us and we can direct you to the feed store or tell you how to get it to us.  If you are wishing to make a monetary donation you can do so by sending it to Bryant and Darlene Rickman directly.

Do you sell trained horses ?

Most of the horses we sell will be foals up to three-year-olds.  Every so often we may have one that is older and may have been through some training.  When you pick up your Rickman Spanish Mustang we have done our best to put hands on, a halter and lead rope.  However, we do not train or break horses for selling, generally.

Once I have chosen my horse can I change to another ?

We want you to be happy with your Rickman Spanish Mustang and if you decide to switch your deposit from one to another we kindly ask for a $50 “transfer fee.”  Remember, once a deposit is made to hold a particular horse we no longer advertise it so when you change horses we might have been able to sell your original pick several times over if it wasn’t on hold.

Do you provide vaccinations?

When you purchase a Rickman Spanish Mustang you will receive Coggins paperwork if required (outside of Oklahoma).  Any health certificates needed or vaccinations are the buyer’s responsibility.

What does the breeding program mean ?

If a horse’s information tab shows **Breeding Program we believe it is important to carry on that particular line/pedigree.  The only way these horses remain is if we have people interested in carrying them on.  If they are in the breeding program they must remain intact for future breeding.  Even if you choose not to breed yourself there may be someone else with a breeding program that may need or want to use your Spanish Mustang.  If **Breeding Program is not noted the colts can be gelded.

Can I get additional pictures or video?

I do my very best to keep the website Horses for Sale pages updated often.  Please remember I do many other tasks so it may go a week or two without updates but I promise to do so at my earliest convenience.  I absolutely will try to get you more pictures and/or video but ask for your patience as I do not live amongst the horses so I can only obtain when I am there.  Thank you!

What do I feed when I get my horse home?

The Rickmans have purchase their feed in bulk and it is a special mix.  Most any good quality feed will work when from a feed store or a chain store.  Our horses are not fed pellet food so if you choose to do so there may be an adjustment but there is no issue doing so.  The hay we feed is the best we can find and afford, lol.  Remember when you get your horse home you do not want to overfeed.

Which is better a Choctaw horse or a Southwest?

It is absolutely your preference.  We can direct you better knowing what your planned use for the horse is so that is why we may ask several questions.  However, you can’t go wrong with any Rickman Spanish Mustang as the Rickmans have been raising them for over 50 years.

Can I put a deposit down for next year's foals ?

We rather you did not.  However, we understand there may be circumstances and we are willing to work with everyone.  However, we prefer to not hold your deposit on a next year foal as we don’t know what we are going to get and to be fair to all we rather post them as they become available and allow all interested a chance.  There are some cases we do have a “waiting list” and will be happy to add you to it if warranted.
